The unarmed security guard in Maryland will need to be certified under the Maryland law and code 29.04.01.02. They will need to need to apply for a renewable license. This license will be valid for the term of three years, once it has been issued. This is a type of employment where work can be found in many different types of locations and where having firearms training is not necessary.

The application for the certification as a Maryland unarmed security guard requires the applicant to provide fingerprints, photographs and the person applying must not have any felony convictions. There is a required FBI style background check required, which is a separate fee from the license application fee. The following information will be needed:

•The applicant must be a citizen or resident of the United States; proof will need to be provided.
•Two passport sized photographs must accompany the application.
•An FBI fingerprint card will also accompany the application; the fingerprint card can be obtained at the Maryland State Police.
•The person applying for an armed security guard license will not have felony convictions and will not have multiple drinking convictions, whether in a vehicle or not.
The unarmed guard will need training in the state of Maryland, but will not be trained in the use of firearms or use of force. They will be trained to perform the duties and paperwork of an unarmed security guard and educated in dealing with emergency situations until the authorities arrive on the scene. This training will include:

Maryland Armed Security Guard Licensing Requirements
The position of an armed security guard in Maryland while important is also one that requires licensing that will open job positions in many different areas. There are prior convictions that can keep a person in Maryland from certification and employment as an armed security guard and they are:

•Felony convictions that include crimes of violence such as abduction, arson, burglary, housebreaking, kidnapping, manslaughter and murder.
•People that have been convicted of habitual drunkenness or rape.
•The armed security guard can be denied due to falsification of application information.
